  • 1 1/4 beef chuck roast
  • 3 carrots, chopped
  • 3 stalks of celery, chopped

  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 can of chopped cooked tomatoes
  • 4 beef bouillon cubes
  • 4 cups of water
  • 2 cups of frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1/2 cup of barley
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 tablespoon of white sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, plus more to taste
  • Salt to taste

Slow cooker chuck roast for 4 to 5 hours on high setting, adding bay leaf and barley in the last hour. When the meat is ready and tender, cut it into small pieces. Remove the bay leaf and reserve the meat, broth and barley. In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, heat the oil then cook the carrots, celery, onion and mixed vegetables until tender. Stir in the tomatoes, beef stock cubes, water, sugar, 1/4 black pepper and the beef mixture. Bring to a boil, lower the heat and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper if necessary.

What do you need:

  • 8 hoagie rolls, reheated
  • 1 1/4 kilogram of beef chuck roast
  • 1 jar of pepperoncini
  • 16 slices of provolone cheese
  • 4 garlic cloves, sliced

Carefully cut the beef into small cuts and place the garlic slices inside the cuts. Place the roast in a slow cooker then pour the entire contents of the pepperoncini pot over the meat (including the liquid). Cover and cook for 6 to 8 hours over low heat. What do you need:

  • 2 kilograms of chuck roast
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups brewed strong coffee

Make a few deep cuts on a roast using a knife, then push the garlic in. Place the beef on a slow cooker and pour coffee over it. Cover and cook for 6 to 8 hours over low heat. When you’re ready, heat the pan juices in a pan over medium-low heat. Combine the water and cornstarch in a bowl then add the mixture to the pan. Simmer until thickened.
