Master Cleanse or Lemon Juice Diet Recipe
3/4 T or 12 tbsp. Lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
3/4 T or 12 tbsp. Grade B maple syrup
7 1/2 C or 60 oz. Filtered water
Mix all the ingredients together. Use an empty 32oz glass juice bottle or plastic water bottle for storage and sip. Makes 6 servings. 6 servings = 1 day of Master Cleanse.
* Use freshly squeezed lemon juice.
* Maple syrup must be category B.
* The water must be purified.
* Organic if possible. (Optional)
* Can use lemon pulp – not in the original recipe, but I find it more cost effective and does not affect the results.
Master Cleanse in single serving
2 tbsp. Lemon juice
2 tbsp. Maple syrup
1/10 c. 1 tsp Cayenne pepper powder
1 1/4 C or 10 oz. Filtered water
Take a single serving recipe 6 times a day to equal a full day of Master Cleanse.
Salt water rinse
4 C or 32 oz of purified water
2 tbsp. Non-iodized sea salt
Mix all the ingredients together and heat on the stove until the salt dissolves. Drink every 32 ounces. salt water.
Salt water acts like an enema and causes immediate release. If nothing happens, repeat the salt water rinse, adding more salt.
Salt water is believed to trick the mind into believing it is blood and therefore is not absorbed by the body. Do it in the morning, but leave the whole day free for this experience.
Detox Herbal Tea
Can be purchased at any drugstore or online vitamin store. It is recommended to take the detox tea every night and do the salt water rinse in the morning (but I prefer to skip the detox tea because I find it unnecessary.)
Advantages and disadvantages of the Master Cleanse
Benefits: Will lose weight quickly, but can gain weight back after you eat solid foods. May be better than current regimen. If you thrive on structure and few food options, you can focus on healthy eating and a lifestyle change. Can help rid your body of toxins and other ailments.
Cons: May feel irritable and dizzy the first few days. Can be expensive. May need an electric lemon squeezer, as manual extraction of lemons becomes tedious. Detox Tea can cause diarrhea and painful cramps without elimination. The salt water rinse may not be eliminated. If no elimination occurs, salt water can be absorbed into the body, leaving a person swollen and physically bloated. Bad breath. Should not be used by people who are pregnant or breastfeeding. May affect drugs. I also find that those who are already fairly healthy or vegetarian do not benefit as much from the Master Cleanse as people who eat a lot of meat or ate a lot of junk food.
Note: I find making detox tea and salt water rinse a bit difficult for most people. Side effects can be painful cramps or bloating. I would only recommend doing the salt water rinse and not the detox tea no more than once a day for a maximum of 1-2 days. (This comes from personal experience, and do not part of the master’s original cleaning instructions.)
