Meats are among the best foods to avoid with gout. It is because of the types of proteins they contain that actually produce uric acid in the body. Offal is one of the worst. This includes the liver, heart, brain, and kidneys. Red meats and game are slightly worse than white meats. This would include all types of game meat, from poultry to larger game.

This is believed to be due to game feeding because chicken would actually be considered a healthier option, but game not. Since they’re both white meats, diets are one of the biggest differences between them. However, bacon and ham should also be avoided.

Foods not to eat with gout – seafood

Another food that should not be eaten with gout is fish. Anchovies and sardines would be right at the top of this list, but that would include most types of fish. Halibut, trout, cod, salmon, and even tuna should not be eaten if you suffer from gout. Again, this is believed to be because of the types of protein found in fish. Even smoked fish should not be eaten.

Another of the most common foods to eat with gout is beans. All types of beans should be avoided including; white beans, kidney beans, chili beans, lima beans, refried beans and green beans. This could be one of those that will give you trouble. You don’t really think about how many dishes the beans actually are in until you have to step away from them. Many Mexican dishes contain beans, whether they are fried or not. You will also find them in many casserole dishes.

Meat extracts are also on the don’ts of gout list that people don’t really think about. This would include sauces, broth, and ingots. Anything that contains beef broth (one of the most common) should be avoided. This will add a whole new level of risk that you might not have thought of. If you need the broth or gravy in the dish, go for chicken over beef. Turkey would also be a better choice than beef. This means that you really can’t eat the beef stew even if you don’t eat the pieces of beef in it. It might make things a little more difficult for those who really need to be on this diet, but it could make a huge difference.
